three dots is a Mac messaging client written in Rust with GPUI, rendered directly on the GPU.

It connects to Messenger itself, through a small helper on your Mac built on the open-source mautrix-meta library. There is no web view, no three dots server and no account.

It shows conversations and nothing else: no feed, stories or marketplace.

Native

A Rust app for Apple silicon with one small helper for Messenger. No browser engine.

Instant startup

Opens straight to your conversations, from an encrypted copy on your Mac, before the network is up.

Keyboard first

Search conversations, people and messages from one palette. Everything else has a shortcut.

Follows macOS

Light and dark appearance, text size and system notifications.

Private

End-to-end encrypted chats stay encrypted. Messages and media are stored encrypted on your Mac. No analytics, tracking or crash reporting.

Network agnostic

Messenger today. Built so other networks can be added.
